MODEL T FORD CLUB OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
Dear Model T’ers Everywhere,
"Why did you buy a Ford?" "The people in my neighborhood
care very little for style and had I purchased a fine looking car
of advanced body and design they would think me stuck up. With
this machine they don’t know but what I made it myself!" (Funabout
Fords by J.J. White, The Howell Co., 1915).
A couple of months ago we voted to change our meeting night, but
so far we HAVE NOT been able to change it due to scheduling difficulties
at the Library ... so until further notice we will continue to
meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the Casselberry Library,
215 N Oxford Rd, Casselberry at 7 p.m. until we get reservations
for another evening.
We welcome Greg and Carol Clarke as new members of the club – they
just happened to have a few pictures of their Ford children to
share with us – WELCOME ABOARD we are glad to have you both!
Their email address is gregclarke2@aol.com.
Marquise gave us a brief description of the tour sponsored by
Walt and Angie Schneider on September 27 of the Palm Coast area.
Nine T’s participated – we also celebrated Wally Schneider’s,
Fran Newsome’s, Tom Tom Johnson’s and Don’s birthdays
with cake, ice cream and refreshments at the Schneider’s
home at the tour’s conclusion – we had a fan"T"astic "T"ime "T"ouring
with the Schneider’s and celebrating all of these birthdays – WELL
DONE – Wally & Angie!

7th at 4 P.M. at Barney’s Steak and Seafood, 1615 East Colonial
Drive in Orlando. Your dinner includes a choice of Roast Prime
Rib Au Jus, Filet Mignon, NY Strip Steak, Scampi Flamingo, Stuffed

Our next tour will be on January 2nd (Friday) – January
4th sponsored by Vince and Gayle Leffler. We will be staying at
the Monterey Inn in St. Augustine. The motel is directly across
from the old Castillo de San Marcos fort. Our cars will have reserved
and secure parking. Trolley Tours drop off and pick up at the motel
and it is within walking distance of the Spanish Quarter and many
excellent restaurants. Call the Monterey Inn at 904-824-4482 to
make your reservations, rates are $79 for one king size bed or
$89 for two double or queen beds – the motel is very popular
so please make your reservations as soon as possible. We plan to
leave the Leffler’s and drive to St. Augustine on Friday
morning – about 85 miles each way, and when you sign up with
Vince and Gayle you will receive a packet with directions, motel
and tour information. Call or email them at 407-322-2322 or GLEF2322@aol.com
for further information.
Vince Leffler also gave a very interesting presentation about
the Holley Vaporizer carburetor used from 1925 to 1927 on the T’s.
It appeared with a number of names on it – Ford Vaporizer,
Holley Vaporizer, etc. but all were of the same design to use really
low grade/low octane fuel – it would even run the car on
kerosene once the engine was hot, but power wasn’t all that
great. Air is drawn in from ports on the underside of the air horn,
down to the float bowl, mixed with fuel and up past the heated
plate and then mixed with more air from the main air intake. It
has been said "No wonder it gave more miles to the gallon – it
gained a couple of fee just getting through the carburetor!"(The
Model T ford Carburetor, Revised Edition, the Model T Ford Club
of America, 1995).
Our club officer elections are coming up in January … so,
if you would like to run for an office, please don’t be shy
or sly … talk it up and expand the hobby with your participation!
At our monthly meeting this month we auctioned off a Split Rim
Spreader $8, a starter device $8, a rebuilt coil $17, and a couple
of Model T books – all donated by members and bought by members.
If you have something you would like to donate and auction off – bring
it to the next meeting.
Mike Bartlett reported that our Second Annual Model T Car Show
and Swap Meet has been scheduled for February 28th 2004 at J. Blanchard
Park, just north of highway 50 on Dean Road in Orlando. Contact
Mike Bartlett at 407-366-5616 or email at TCPORL@Bellsouth.net
for more information. Mike also said that the park is going to
furnish flyers and trophies and food/snack venders. We look forward
to having a great time – it is not too late to volunteer
to help out.
Elections for the Model T Ford Club International are in your
magazines this month – please make sure you vote. You will
also see that our very own John "Jack" Mahaffey has been
encouraged by our membership to through his hat in the ring.
In light of our Christmas Party on December 7th – the December
meeting has been cancelled.
MAKE a grea"T" day! Mike Story
