| MODEL T FORD CLUB OF CENTRAL FLORIDA
October 2005
Dear Model T’ers Everywhere,
31 Model T’ers were at our last meeting in September that
was held at Gleason’s Grille in Winter Park – good
turnout and we had the opportunity to celebrate Walter Schneider’s
80th birthday with much good cheer. We also gave everyone present
a different copy of the Model T Times from a very nice donated
collection of Bob Shanks who is a former owner of a 1925 Touring
and a member of the Model A Ford Club of Greater Orlando – THANKS
BOB! We also had a new guest which we inducted into the ranks of
our club David Boe who has a 1926 roadster that he is currently
working on and wants to get active – no problem, we made
him welcome, talked him through a few finer points of T trouble
shooting – and hopefully he will be on the road with us soon.
Wally Schneider also offered to set us up with a little tour
to see a private collection of antique autos in New Smyrna Beach
in the near future, and Angie and Wally told us all about the Antique
Automobile Club of America’s November 25-26 Ormond Beach
Gaslight Parade, Block Party and Antique Car Show. You can get
more information at www.aaca.org/volusia or contact Dan Smith who
is the Show Chairman at 386-441-7793.
Jack and Susie Whitt, 8023 Whitt Lane, Yalaha phone 352-324-3868
or 352-406-0851, reminded everyone of the tour they are sponsoring
for us on October 22 and 23 – an overnight tour to Homossa
Springs – about 65 miles each way from their home – you
can bring your car on a trailer and leave it at their house. Please
call them to let them know you will be coming. We will be staying
in the Bella Oasis Inn phone 352-628-4311. Rates are about $75-85
per night – call and mention our club for discount rate.
We will be leaving Jack and Susie’s around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday,
having lunch in Homosassa or Crystal River. We will be touring
Homosassa Springs State Park on Saturday afternoon and the Group
rate is $6 each for the springs tour. We plan to have dinner around
6 p.m. at the Margarita Grill. And Sunday morning we will have
breakfast wherever you like. We are also going to travel to Inverness
about 17 miles away from Homosassa and have lunch at Stumpknockers;
and returning to Yalaha after lunch. As you can see, we like to
eat and enjoy talking T.
There were two families that attended the Model A’s of
Greater Orlando Roundup with their T’s – Richard and
Carol Fortner and Mike and Judie Story – both families drove
their touring’s and had a great time picnicking at Ron and
Shirley Hood’s ranch in Saint Cloud. It’s always fun
to show those young wipper snappers what a Model T is like! And
we appreciated the invite too. Carol also drove their Model A Roadster
to the event.
Don Larson told us about the progress he has made on getting
ready for the cross country tour from NY to Washington, and while
we were up in Hershey. PA, Don bought a touring to make this dream
come true. Don is still looking for a sponsor to help defray costs – so,
if you or someone you know might be interested please let him know
at dlwrldwide@aol.com or phone 407-679-5505.
It’s not too early for you to step up on the running board
and cast your wrench in for elections to our club officers which
will be held at our Christmas Party on December 10th. We always
need a few volunteers too for things like tours, social events
director, articles for the Model T Times, Tinkering Tips, Video
Librarian, auctioneer, vulture wagoneer – besides President,
Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Speaking of which – Sue
Restich is coordinating our eats for the Christmas Party and we
are going to have the same great food again this year, but with
more drinks – cost will be $10 per person. Chuck Dunlap also
gave us a report on what he has been up to with the Episcopal Diocese
of Central Florida proving relief to the victims of the double
whammy our friends and families have experienced over in the gulf
regions – Chuck has been volunteering his time and energy
as an attorney to help coordinate the response from this area.
Also I am happy to announce that our club voted to donate $100
to the Red Cross for the relief effort.
Our next meeting will be on October 13th at 7 p.m. at the Casselberry
Library of Seminole County, 215 N. Oxford Road phone 407-665-1500.
Just a couple of the things we will be doing is giving a report
on our trip to the AACA Hershey, PA swap meet – at least
12 of our members attended, and finalizing the tour to Homosassa
Springs. If you need a Model T video from our library – give
a call to Richard Fortner at 407-892-8580 or rfordt20@aol.com to
reserve a video.
MAKE a grea”T” day! Mike Story, President
